We are lonely in Madison according to a conversation between a singer and an audience member transcribed on the back of a menu from Cafe Montmartre. The menu was posted at dane101.com:

Audience member: “Madison is lonely.”
Songstress: “What does that mean?”
Audience member: “It means it sucks. You’re beautiful, so inspire us.”
Songstress: “I’ll try.”

Another quote says the songstress came “All the way from Finland to Madison.”

At WSUM Madison student radio’s Snake on the Lake Fest (in Madison) one patron was heard asking another this question about Madison’s Pale Young Gentlemen:

“Where are they from?”

If locals don’t know who you are but are interested enough to assume you can’t be local – that is a good sign. Seriously, God forbid anyone assume Madison has good bands.

guy nodding at me:

He looks like a me-he with a bed.

to me:

You look like a me-he–but one who eats and doesn’t sleep on couches.

Original speaker wanders away. Moments later, another guy, who may have been in Milwaukee’s KingHellBastard, points across the patio…

His girl’s grabbing his joint to get him to calm down.
